On the evening of Friday, the 3rd of September saw a Woodbridge Town Legends take on one of our main sponsors in a charity match to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Legends side saw twenty-five previous and existing players totaling some ,6500 appearances for the club as well as scoring over 1,000 goals take part. The side included Simon Fryatt who holds the record for appearances at 701 games and the same for the most goals scored, 347 in total!
The game also saw club vice-chairman Paul Leech turn out and score a goal for the Legends, has he ever told you he once scored a hattrick for the club at Wisbech?
The Brafe side included club chairman Adam Dalby as well as one or two regulars who attend first team games. The game was much closer than the 4-1 score line to the Legends suggests with ex Town goalkeeper Jimmy MacKenna making two excellent saves late on in the game. Both teams left the field to warm applause after putting on a good show!
Once the match ended, we were entertained by DJ Shaun and then treated to some live music by Rev and his band. It was good to see so many ex-players including Gerry Daish who had travelled all the way from Cambridge to be there.
The evening was well supported and a total of £2200 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support through the gate receipts, raffle and golden goal.
A big thankyou to all who donated prizes for the raffle!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone one who helped to bring the evening together in any shape or form.
