What started as an idea from Joint First Team Manager, Leon Moore, just a week ago has already grown legs. "Foodbanks are acting as a lifeline for some families, even more so during the pandemic. Families In Need (FIND) Ipswich are a local charity that help families by providing free food parcels and personal care items to help people get through a crisis, as well as furniture, bedding and other household items where the person or family has none.
Leon suggested running 2,000 miles, over the month of February with the aim of raising £1,000 to support FIND and the great work they do. Spread across the First Team, Ladies and Reserves that would only be 10 miles per player per week.
Players have been preparing and there is already some friendly competition to see which team will cover the most distance. A 'JustGiving' page was launched on Friday and amazingly, at the time of writing, the £1,000 target has almost been reached.
"I'm blown away by the support already. It's incredible that people can be so generous at this time and willing to help people less fortunate than themselves." Leon went on to say "The players are like 'coiled springs' waiting for February the 1st and we can start collating their runs. As the target for donations is going to be smashed it's put some pressure on the lads and ladies to beat the 2,000 mile distance too."
We won't be stopping once we hit the initial £1,000 target. Every penny count so that target will be increased soon as we raise as much as we can for FIND.
