 PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY FIXTURE

Westerfield Res 2 Woodbridge Town U18 4
Thursday 24th July 2008
Following on from two successive pre-season draws for the 1st team & an opening defeat for the reserves, the Under 18s registered the first Woodbridge Town victory of the new season as they came from behind to defeat SIL team Westerfield Reserves, who were managed by former Woodbridge Town goalkeeper, Scott Peat on Thursday evening.
.

The game was an opportunity for Under 18 Coach, Sean Thacker, to look at the new batch of 1st year youth team players, especially with a host of last season’s successful FA Youth Cup team unavailable. Of the 16 players used only goalkeeper, Adam Dawson, played more than 60 minutes during a game split into three thirty minute periods, due to the intense heat.

JORDAN SEAMAN raced away from the Westerfield defence in the 6th minute to slide Woodbridge in front, a lead that was maintained until Wanderers scored twice in 2 minutes just before the hour mark, courtesy of a long-range free-kick & a close-range header from a corner.
However, the Woodbridge Town style of play was in evidence throughout the game & as the game moved into the last 20 minutes, the Woodbridge youngsters were rewarded for their patient possession & bright, quick passing in the opposition’s half as firstly STUART BAILLIE levelled the scores & then JORDAN SEAMAN put them ahead with a strike from the edge of the area. The win was sealed in the final minute when Jack Garnham (the 2nd – we have two 1st year players called Jack Garnham!) had his goal-bound shot handled on the line & JORDAN SEAMAN stepped up to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot.

Squad: Adam Dawson, James Fulker, Ryan Stafford, Charlie Sanford, Jack Garnham (the 1st), Daniel Hitchings, Jonjo Hood-Wright, James Wright, Mehmet Duzgun, Jack Garnham (the 2nd), Ross Hutchings, Danny Tatum, Stuart Baillie, Jordan Seaman, James Churchill & Jack Lawrence.
