Woodbridge Town 2 Tiptree United

Tiptree were left to rue a host of missed
chances in the 2nd half as Woodbridge held onto their slender
half-time lead given to them by the unlikely goal duo of David
Kempson & Jonjo Hood-Wright to record their 2nd successive
victory. |
|
Mo Rahman was available again after 5 weeks away & was
indeed the only 2nd year in the team, while goalkeeper,
Nathan Allison was also back in the team.
Despite a slow start Woodbridge took an 11th minute lead
when Ross Hutchings & Danny Tatum worked a quickly-taken
short corner & the latter crossed to the far post &
DAVID KEMPSON too advantage of the keeper completely
missing the ball to head home.
The lead was doubled on the half hour when Rahman
celebrated his return with an assist as he crossed from
the right for JONJO HOOD-WRIGHT to score his 1st ever
Woodbridge goal at the far post.
Ben Hutton saw a great effort fly inches wide of the
post as Woodbridge threatened a 3rd goal before
half-time & James Wright’s mazy run which began on the
halfway line looked likely to end in a sensational
individual goal until a last-ditch tackle.
It had certainly not been one-way traffic & Allison had
been tested in the home goal on several occasions, while
two other good chances were wasted. It was no real
surprise when Tiptree halved the deficit heading in a
corner after Allison failed to collect the ball.
Apart from an early appeal for a penalty when Hutton
appeared to have been brought down & another chance
later on for Hutton, which went the wrong side of the
post, the 2nd half was dominated by the visitors.
There were a number of let-offs as Tiptree players were
guilty of some woeful finishing, several times with just
Allison to beat! The closest Tiptree came to levelling
was when they scrambled the ball following a free-kick
which had been superbly saved, but also spilled by
Allison, but the offside flag came to Woodbridge’s
rescue.
Losing the physical presence of Kempson & Hood-Wright to
illness & injury respectively, left the make-shift
defence stretched & breached, but somehow the ball
stayed out of the home goal & Woodbridge recorded a
hard-earned & unlikely victory.
Team: Allison, Bultitude, Hood-Wright (Holmes 54),
Wright, Salisbury, Kempson (Fulker 54), Hutchings,
Rahman (Nicklin 62), Hutton, Tatum & Morphew
