A first half display that can
only be described as lethargic, inept and
derisory was in stark contrast to a second half
display that showed guts, determination and
togetherness.
In a first half to forget where the only
surprise was that Norwich Utd did not capitalise
further on their 2 goals which came from
straight balls down the middle for their
strikers to round keeper Ross, Woodbridge
offered very little with no cohesion to our
play.
It took 32 minutes before we
mustered anything like a chance when U18 striker
Baldry was sent through and after showing good
strength to hold off his challenger, he
unfortunately dragged his shot wide. Other than
a Smy strike from outside of the box from a wide
area, the Home keeper was untroubled and the
side certainly deserved the home truths that
were given to them at halftime.
As mentioned above, the team
rolled their sleeves up in the second half and
were a lot tighter defensively and we gained
more ground and possession of the ball which was
non-existent in the first period. Whilst we were
starting to string a few passes together we were
still finding it hard to test the keeper with
our best efforts coming from distance. Our best
chance came from a decent move down the right
and our cross was slightly deflected straight to
Nicklin who agonisingly sent his looping header
just over the bar. Had we managed to get back to
2-1 at that stage, we may have had a chance as
it would have given us a lot more confidence but
it was not to be and to sum up our afternoon.
Norwich scored a third late on
when a wayward shot that was only ever going
wide fell straight at the feet of another Utd
player who rolled the ball past the grounded
Ross. This was harsh on our young team who
perhaps had learnt their lesson of the first
half to put up a spirited second half display
with no reward.
