With both sets of 1st teams not in action, both
sides fielded a sprinkling of senior players. In
addition, Towns young and upcoming talented
players, made the difference in an entertaining
game.
With 2 minutes on the clock, Leiston stated
their intentions with some direct play and their
first shot going just wide of Rhodes left post.
Town responded well, and started
to keep possession, along with good movement and
pace.
With 10mins gone, a fine through ball from
midfield, found Heathcote in space and he made
no mistake, Firing low to the keepers right.
Heathcote got his second of the
night from another straight pass through the
channel and calmly slotted home through the on
rushing keepers legs.
Town were now playing with confidence, and at
times, through Trevivian and young Baille, were
dominating in centre midfield.
Leiston Started to go more
direct, and for the last 10mins of the first
half, their long balls caused some problems.
With 35mins gone, Leiston pulled one back, after
Town failed to clear .
That seemed to send out a warning for Town who
responded with some great build up play, again
from midfield, Trevivian finding Seaman with a
clever pass wide right, for seamen to use his
pace, cut in, and fire low to the keepers left
for 3-1 at HT. The
second period saw Leiston start the better with
some sustained pressure and possession. This
resulted in Leistons 2nd goal on 65mins, from 6
yards out, after some scrappy play in the area.
Town made their first change on
65mins, when young U18s player Smy replaced the
busy and hard working U18s Baldry in attack.
Town started to gain possession
and the dominance in mid field returned with
some great work through another promising U18s
player Baille. Town made
another change on 70mins, with Hammond replacing
Heathcote as
Town were now gaining the upper hand in all
areas as Leiston started to chase the game. It
was from a free kick that Town scored their 4th
of the night with a superb 20 yard strike from
Lay with 75mins gone.
Continued possession and hard work saw out the
game for Town with the final score 4-2.
This was a good performance from Towns reserves
and a good return for Towns keeper Rhodes, and
in particular the young players coming through,
Baille, Baldry, Seaman, Thickett, Hammond,
Acland and Smy, all showed that they are making
the transition from U18s to reserve level well,
and can all be pleased with an excellent
evenings work. Well done !
