WOODBRIDGE TOWN 3 IPSWICH WANDERERS 3
The visitors took a 2nd minute
lead with a 25 yard strike following an exchange
of passes in the midfield. Despite going behind,
Woodbridge passed the ball with their usual
style & had threatened an equalizer on a number
of occasions before SEAN REA glanced home Danny
Tatum’s cross with his head shortly before
half-time.
ROB BIRD gave Woodbridge a
deserved lead on the hour, converting Craig
Jennings’ unselfish pass & Jack Lawrence was
denied a goal when his shot hit the inside of
the post & rolled across the line.
The game took a big swing wit
10 minutes left when the referee over-ruled an
offside flag & while home defenders stopped,
Wanderers took full advantage to level the
scores.
The remaining few minutes saw both teams going
for the winning goal with both goalkeepers
making excellent saves. In the 1st minute of
injury time, it looked as if the visitors would
take home all 3 points when a terrific
counter-attack was rounded off with an angled
drive past Nathan Allison, but Woodbridge
levelled the scores again as Jennings & Ryan
Stafford kept a 94th minute free-kick alive &
JORDAN SEAMAN fired an instinctive shot in off
the far post.
WOODBRIDGE TOWN 0 LOWESTOFT 6
Despite being completely
outplayed during the opening 45 minutes,
Woodbridge somehow managed to deny
table-toppers, Lowestoft from scoring with some
last-gasp defending, although the visitors were
also guilty of some wasteful finishing.
It wasn’t take too long into
the 2nd half before the visitors had the ball in
the back of the net, but it was ‘correctly’
ruled out for offside. Moments later though
there was no reprieve when Lewis Rhodes tipped a
shot onto the post only for the ball to rebound
back onto his head & over the goal-line. It was
Woodbridge’s turn to be denied a goal by a
linesman’s flag when Rob Bird was adjudged
‘offside’ when turning in Jordan Seaman’s shot.
This proved to be the home team’s only real
effort on the Lowestoft goal afternoon & the
visitors finally made their domination count in
terms of goals as they rattled in a further 5
goals between the 62nd & 82nd minutes to confirm
their place as league leaders & to inflict
Woodbridge’s 1st defeat of the season. |
