It was disastrous start for
the home team as they found themselves 2-0 down
inside 13 minutes. A 4th minute move from
Walsham caught defenders & midfield watching
while visiting players carved open a simple
chance which was eventually taken with a
close-range finish past Tom Ross. Ted Nichol
then had his pass intercepted on the edge of the
area & again Ross was left exposed & picking the
ball out of his net.
However, Woodbridge were jolted back into life
when DANNY TATUM worked space & showed good feet
before smashing in a low drive from 25 yards &
it came as no surprise when Woodbridge levelled
the score on 28 minutes after CARL WIDDOWSON
rounded off a flowing move involving Tatum, Tony
Boto & Matt Oxbrow.
In fact such was the home team’s domination now
that they should have been ahead before
half-time following a series of good moves, but
the closest they came to taking the lead was
when Oxbrow fired wide from a great position
after another terrific piece of passing
football.
It was a different story after the interval
though as it was Woodbridge’s turn to struggle
to get far away from their own penalty area,
kicking into a strong wind. Woodbridge rarely
threatened through & when Boto headed straight
at the keeper from close range near the end it
was the only goal attempt of the half!
At the other end, urged on from the visiting
bench ‘in their chosen way’, Walsham pinned
Woodbridge back, going close on a number of
occasions.
Despite losing their manager to a red card after
the referee, like most inside Notcutts Park got
fed up of the constant abuse & swearing, the
visiting team always looked the most likely to
score the game’s 5th & winning goal & it came
courtesy of a excellent finish with 7 minutes
remaining.
