Woodbridge for having been 3-1 up
at half time and Needham for dominating so much of the second
half.
Needham started better and deservedly went ahead on 8 minutes
when a misplaced pass led to an opportunity for a strike at
goal. Whilst not being the cleanest of shots, it was enough to
wrong-foot Ross in the Woodbridge goal. Needham continued to
enjoy the better of the early exchanges and it wasn't until the
18th minute that Woodbridge had their first effort on goal with
Jennings pulling his shot harmlessly wide.
Needham had the opportunity to go 2-0 up, but shot wide when
well placed. 2 minutes later they were made to pay when on 22
minutes MAYHEW scored to pull Woodbridge level after a quickly
taken free-kick and good work by Jennings.
On 26 minutes MAYHEW made it 2-1 to Woodbridge with a great solo
effort and JENNINGS made it 3-1 in the 31st minute when he
outpaced the home defence to finish. As the half drew to an end
Woodbridge missed further chances to increase their lead,
firstly through Mayhew and then Jennings, when put through by
Yearley. Needham ended the half with a series of corners and
despite opportunities arising, failed to reduce the deficit.
The second half was largely dominated bt Needham although
Woodbridge had the opportunity to increase their lead, firstly
when the keeper saved well from Mayhew after receiving a pass
from Stafford and then Mayhew put Jennings through but he shot
straight at the keeper. Jennings was further denied by the
keeper when well placed.
The home side then missed a couple of opportunities themselves
when firstly they were denied by an excellent save by Ross and
then hit the post when it looked easier to score.
On 72 minutes Woodbridge were made to pay for missed
opportunities when Scott finished emphatically from the edge of
the box to make it 3-2 and then deservedly drew level in the
80th minute. Despite Needham continuing to enjoy possession and
territorial advantage in the second half, Woodbridge held firm
to secure a hard fought draw.
