Wivenhoe Town 0 Woodbridge Town 1
Saturday 29th August 2009
With both teams looking to get their points tally off the mark for the season it was Woodbridge in their fourth away fixture of five matches who secured all three with a single goal after fifteen minutes.
Sean Rea won the Woodpeckers a corner which he delivered to the near post where centre back Chris Pratt stooped to head past Reid in the Dragons goal. Five minutes later Woodbridge lengthened their run of conceding a penalty in every league match this season to date as Seb Brimstead slipped, blocking a delivery across the penalty area with his arm, but the resultant spot kick was poorly struck and Adam Wilson deputising in goal for the injured Tom Ross dived to his right gathering the ball comfortably.

In a scrappy second half Woodbridge's attempts to increase their lead where constantly thwarted by the referees whistle for minor Wivenhoe infringements but twice they came close. A snap shot by Marcus Josiah's was parried out by Reid for a corner from which Aaron Churchyards header was cleared off the line and Rea watched another effort deflect from the keepers foot to trickle agonisingly past the far upright.

Woodbridge team: Adam Wilson, Seb Brimstead, Grant Monaghan, Sean Rea, Chris Pratt, Ben Miller, Tom Trevivian, Liam Scopes, Marcus Josiah, Aaron Churchyard, Ben Seaman. Subs (All unused): Ben Goddard, Craig Ellis, James Heathcote, Jordan Seaman.

Referee Mr L. Venamore:
