Woodbridge conceded their fifth
penalty in three league matches to turn this
game in Wisbech's favour. |
|
An evenly contested first half
ended with Fenmen striker Scott Cubberly sending
Town keeper Tom Ross the wrong way from the spot
after Darren Jimson had earned his side the
penalty when under pressure from Ben Miller. (A
dive? judge for yourself
here. Tony Monaghan thought so!). The
preceding 44 minutes had been devoid of any
shots on target with the exception of two free
kicks sent goalwards by Jimson, the first
curling harmlessly wide of the mark and the
second comfortably gathered by Ross.
Woodbridge stepped up a gear in search of an
equaliser and had the home side on the back foot
at the opening of the second half until a well
rehearsed set piece move by the home side
nullified their efforts, Wisbech skipper Paul
Cousins running 25 yards to meet a corner kick
delivered over the awaiting pack thundering a
powerful header into the Town net. Left back
Jason Pease added a third for the Fenmen putting
the finishing touch at the far post to a low
delivery across goal leaving Woodbridge still in
search of their first point of the season which
may prove elusive until methods of threatening
their opponents goal are added to finish their
creditable build up play.
