Whitton United 1 Woodbridge Town 3 |

Two goals in as many minutes just
before half time paved the way for Woodbridge to
win this local derby. |
|
Woodbridge had looked the more
likely side to break the deadlock and took the
lead after 41 minutes , the lively Chris Lay
stooping to head home Robbie Smythe’s left wing
free kick.
Then the Whitton defence went AWOL as Marcus
Josiah turned away from two opponents and found
himself one-on-one with Jack Foster who he
rounded before slotting home.
Whitton with 41 year old former Newcastle and
Spurs winger Ruel Fox adding some much needed
guile in attack, rallied in the second period.
It was substitute Fox who reduced the defecit
after 70 minutes tapping home after Anton
Clarke’s free kick caused confusion in the
visitors defence.
Matt Cunningham’s downward header bounced up
onto the bar to deny Whitton a 76th minute
equaliser and two minutes later Woodbridge
substitute Josh Mayhew playing his first senior
game for 10 months after a serious knee injury,
headed home Lay’s left wing cross to end the
home team’s resistance.
