Woodbridge Town 1 Hadleigh United 3
Wednesday 16th September 2009
AN INJURY to Hadleigh United centre half and skipper Robert Knott proved the catalyst for his side’s second away win in the space of five days.
Knott was carried off on a stretcher and later had stitches inserted in a deep cut just below the knee following a 55th minute challenge with Marcus Josiah, who also took no further part in the match.

Hadleigh brought on striker Chris Cowan, whose right-wing corner five minutes later went in off Chris Leys’ knee to put the visitors in front.

Cowan then curled home a superb shot from the edge of the area after 67 minutes to make it 2-0 before Chris Pratt’s near-post header from substitute Chris Lay’s corner halved the deficit just two minutes later.

However, Hadleigh wrapped up the points thanks to a fine goal on the counter-attack, Leys finding Jermaine Harewood, whose pin-point cross saw leading scorer Craig Payne supply a measured first-time finish from the edge of the area.

The second half was in direct to contrast to a drab opening 45 minutes when clear-cut chances were at a premium. Woodbridge had looked the more likely to score, with Arron Benstead forced into a couple of good saves from Josiah and Jay Churchyard.

Woodbridge Town: Adam Wilson, Chris Pratt, Grant Monaghan, Tom Trevivian, Craig Stuart, Ben Miller, Aaron Churchyard, Sean Rea, Jay Churchyard (sub Ben Goddard, 79 mins), Daniel Morphew (sub Robbie Smythe, 75 mins), Marcus Josiah (sub Chirs Lay, 60 mins).
