Woodbridge Town 2 Ipswich Wanderers 1
Tuesday 29th April 2008
JUST AS they had done in the first meeting between these two sides earlier in the season Woodbridge staged a come-from-behind win.

Lee O'Neill equalised five minutes after Darren Mills had put Wanderers in front mid-way through the first half and Ben Seaman clinched all three points with a well-taken goal in the 65th minute to make it two wins in four days for the Woodpeckers.

Wanderers, who had finally lost their season-long battle against relegation on Saturday, started brightly and created four chances before they eventually took the lead.

James Buckle fired over the bar in the fifth minute and two minutes later a mistake by Ben Miller let in Lee McGlone whose shot was blocked by Marcus Garnham and although the ball fell for Mills he was unable to get sufficient power in his header to trouble the keeper from the rebound.

McGlone lifted his shot over both the advancing Marcus Garnham and the crossbar in the ninth minute after some good approach play down the right-hand side by Chas Thorpe, before Mills charged down Miller's attempted clearance but the Woodbridge captain recovered to force Mills to shoot wide under his challenge.

However, Mills made no mistake in the 22nd minute when he rose well to meet Curtis Haynes-Brown's left-wing free-kick and head past Marcus Garnham, who in the afternoon had been keeping goal in a 4-3 win for Ipswich Town Reserves against Luton Reserves at Kenilworth Road.

The lead was no more than Wanderers deserved but it was all too shortlived from the visitors' point of view as good approach play saw Seaman and Luke Read exchange passes down the right wing and Read's low right-foot shot was touched home by Lee O'Neill for the equaliser.

O'Neill and Paul Hart both blazed over the bar either side of Mark Roper requiring attention for a head injury sustained when going for the ball with team-mate Arran Sheppard and then O'Neill saw his shot saved by goalkeeper Gary Hammond's legs and Bickers was unable to force home the rebound as the half came to a close.

The second-half saw little by way of goalmouth action up until the 64th minute when McGlone turned well in the box but his shot was straight at Marcus Garnham and a minute later Woodbridge scored the winner when Seaman cut in from the right and saw his initial shot blocked but when the ball was knocked into his path he scored with a well-struck right-foot shot across the keeper.

Three booking in the space of four minutes - Hart and Roper for Woodbridge and Buckle of Wanderers - livened up proceedings as Woodbridge closed the game out in the dying minutes.

Woodbridge Town: Marcus Garnham; Arran Sheppard (sub Ted Nichols 83 mins), Grant Monaghan, Aaron Churchyard, Mark Roper, Ben Miller, Luke Read, Paul Hart, Jon Bickers, Lee O'Neill, Ben Seaman. Unused subs: Sean Rea, David Kempson, Craig Jennings.
